Westport Middle School

Fuss & O’Neill developed a pilot project to remove identified interior and exterior sources of PCBs at Westport Middle School.

Based on success of the pilot project in limited locations, our team conducted abatement with only a one month time-frame prior to the school opening. This major removal project involved multiple shifts of a 100 man crew to eliminate sources of PCBs and safely open the building as scheduled. PCBs were safely removed and airborne concentrations were within EPA acceptable limits.

Fuss & O’Neill monitored the abatement throughout its duration. PCBs were removed with some limited encapsulation as an interim measure. We worked with the Westport Community Schools and the School Committee to negotiate and conduct work in a manner acceptable to EPA standards. Our team provided continual monitoring and assistance to the school until June 2015.
