Wastewater Treatment Facility Anaerobic Digester Upgrade

The recommended upgrade would allow the facilities to handle regional septage, and qualified the project for a 50% sludge and septage grant from the State of Vermont.

A preliminary evaluation of the anaerobic digesters at the North and East wastewater treatment plants was performed and a report of findings prepared. The facilities at both plants were constructed around 1960, and were in poor condition with failing steel covers. We evaluated whether additional capacity could be obtained to accept regional septage and to accommodate higher future wastewater flows, and reviewed alternative process configurations and mixing technology. We then compiled a report which recommended changing the process to a two-tank/single-stage reactor that effectively doubled the process capacity.
