South Street Superfund Site

As part of an overall effort to redevelop the Blackburn and Union Privileges (aka South Street) USEPA Superfund Site, Fuss & O’Neill was retained to assist with a public outreach campaign and to prepare the site for redevelopment. The Superfund site was historically occupied since the 17th century for industrial operations, including a tannery and manufacturer of asbestos brake linings, but has long been the subject of redevelopment efforts.

Fuss & O’Neill’s involvement included evaluations of environmental data, development of potential redevelopment scenarios, public surveys, a door-to-door campaign, presentations at public and municipal meetings to inform and involve the community, and 3rd-party Licensed Site Professional review. Once the site was selected for redevelopment, we conducted a comprehensive hazardous building materials assessment, prepared the design and permits for complete demolition of six buildings, and conducted a public bidding process for a demolition contractor.
