RemGrit Facility Demolition Oversight

Fuss & O’Neill provided the City of Bridgeport with environmental and engineering services to support the demolition of the former RemGrit Facility, making way for a proposed
Metro-North train stop, which plays a large role in Bridgeport’s master plan for its transit-oriented development.

Our work for the City included building structural assessments, local and state permitting, hazardous material testing, and abatement design (including two Alternate Work Practice approvals from the Department of Health). The Fuss & O’Neill team prepared plans and specifications for the abatement and demolition of the two large industrial buildings, including a former power plant, smoke stack, bulk above ground oil storage, and a 100,000 ft2 industrial building. We assisted the City with preparing the bid package, selection of appropriate contractors, and the demolition of the site.

Subsequent to the demolition of several buildings on the site, we performed an assessment of the historic ten-story shot tower, adjoining low-rise buildings, and smoke stack. We prepared documents to stabilize the structures until a development opportunity arises.
