Rear Main Street Corridor Redevelopment

Fuss & O’Neill worked with the City of Gardner to refine and implement the master plan for the redevelopment of the Rear Main Street Corridor. This area had been occupied by abandoned mill buildings and other unused space for decades.

We assisted the City in obtaining MassWorks grant funding to demolish the remaining mill structures and construct a roadway extension through the property to link the area to the surrounding roadway network. We prepared bid plans and specifications for the building demolition and site restoration, and provided Construction Administration and Hazardous Materials Site Monitoring to support the project. Upon completion of the demolition project, we designed the new roadway, Derby Drive, which incorporated complete streets design elements. Construction on Derby Drive commenced in June, 2017, with implementation of the remaining elements of the master plan scheduled for 2018 and 2019.
