Pocasset River Floodwall and Pump Station

The City of Cranston retained Fuss & O’Neill to design the first new floodwall and pump station project in the State of Rhode Island in approximately 50 years. This project was made possible by NRCS funding.

The purpose of this project was to protect existing industrial and residential lands along the Pocassett River that are frequently flooded by constructing a 2,000-foot long, sheetpile flood wall equipped with large stormwater pump stations to remove runoff from protected areas.

The design and permitting of this project were fast-tracked, as required by NRCS funding. Fuss & O’Neill led coordination with project partners (Cranston, Johnston, and NRCS), regulators (RIDEM, FEMA, and ACOE), and the public to meet this aggressive deadline.
