Mixed-use Development Traffic Impact Study

Fuss & O’Neill is the Engineer-of-Record for the mixed-use development of Avon Village Center. This more than one million-square-foot development has dedicated more than half of its site to retail space, including a grocery store. The remaining square footage consists of office space, residential units, and a cultural arts center.

As this development is currently in Phase 1, Fuss & O’Neill provided a Traffic Impact Study to assess the site-generated traffic impacts to the surrounding roadway network. The study included conducting peak hour turning movement traffic counts at key study area intersections, followed by capacity and queue analyses of these volumes using Synchro software. An assessment of existing conditions of the surrounding roadway network was conducted and an internal roadway network for the development was designed. The traffic counts were grown to the build year, and a comparison of no-build and build conditions was performed to determine what infrastructure improvements would be needed to mitigate the site-generated traffic.

Our study was submitted to the Town in support of the local approval process and to the Office of the State Traffic Administration (OSTA) in support of a major traffic generator certificate application.
