Oyster Bay State of the Watershed Report & Watershed Action Plan

Fuss & O’Neill assisted Friends of the Bay and other watershed stakeholders to develop a watershed management plan for the Oyster Bay/Cold Spring Harbor estuary complex on the north shore of Long Island.

The project consisted of the development of a State of the Watershed Report, followed by a comprehensive Watershed Action Plan. Funding for the project was obtained from the National Fish & Wildlife Foundation through the Long Island Sound Futures Fund, as well as the Town of Oyster Bay, the Long Island Community Foundation and the Rauch Foundation.

  • The Oyster Bay/Cold Spring Harbor estuary is the cleanest in western Long Island Sound.
  • The most economically important shellfishery in NY.
  • One of America’s ten most endangered wildlife refuges (Defenders of Wildlife, 2005).

The project assessed existing watershed conditions and identified prioritized actions to protect and restore this vital resource and its watershed.
