Membrane Biological Reactor

Fuss and O’Neill Design Build Services completed construction of a $3 million wastewater treatment system for a manufacturing facility.

This manufacturing facility – a flavorings facility in Western Connecticut – produces a high strength wastewater that required near-complete Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) and nitrogen removal. Stringent NPDES permit requirements necessitated a complete system overhaul, integrating existing aerobic BOD reduction with equalization and denitrification.

The final step of the project was to upgrade the Membrane Bio-Reactor with new membrane systems and designing and fabricating a stainless steel reactor vessel. Unit processes include nitrification, denitrification with supplemental carbon, MBR’s, pH adjustment, disinfection, and discharge. All pertinent facility support systems, such as process chemical storage and delivery, were also upgraded.
