L&L Gas and Service Station Brownfields Assessment and Abatement and Demolition

Fuss & O’Neill worked with the West Broadway Neighborhood Association (WBNA) to conduct an EPA and RIDEM-funded brownfields assessment and cleanup of a former gas station and vehicle repair shop, which included abatement and demolition of the former building.

Located on Westminster Street, a main thoroughfare in the heart of Providence’s West End, this site operated as a gas station and vehicle repair shop from the 1950s to 2012. Fuss & O’Neill completed a comprehensive Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessment as well as an assessment of hazardous building materials containing asbestos and PCBs. Due to the extent of hazardous materials in the building, complete demolition of the structure was conducted to prepare the site for redevelopment.

Fuss & O’Neill prepared an Asbestos Abatement Plan for RIDOH approval and PCB remediation documentation under the EPA’s Toxic Substances Control Act. Abatement and demolition inspections on behalf of WBNA were conducted. Subsequent to demolition, a site-wide soil cap was installed to prepare for future redevelopment.
