Fuss & O’Neill designed several new structures around Keney Park Pond, as part of an overall environmental restoration of the pond.
After conducting a geotechnical investigation and initial field survey of the area, our engineers designed concrete foundations for a prefabricated steel pedestrian bridge and gazebo. Numerous timber boardwalks, founded on concrete caissons, were constructed over wet areas around the pond, and new drainage culverts were installed using concrete headwalls with a stone pattern form-liner. The project also included two fishing piers and a band platform over the water, which was constructed of steel pipe piles, galvanized steel framing, TREX decking and painted steel railing.
Our structural group collaborated with our landscape architects to ensure that the new design was aesthetically pleasing and increased the accessibility to the pond, which is located in a busy neighborhood of Hartford.
