Fuel Cell Engineering Evaluation

Fuss & O’Neill was hired to evaluate the technical and economic feasibility of installing fuel cells at four college campuses.

Our evaluation included an economic/life-cycle cost analysis and a project plan addressing procurement procedures, emissions, and permitting issues, as well as utility interconnection requirements, expected system efficiency, installation costs, maintenance and operating costs. We also defined the project’s budget and schedule. The outcome of our evaluation identified technical, contractual, and schedule criteria constraints. We completed
the following:

  • Determined rating, configuration, and location of fuel cells to accommodate unique conditions at each campus by analyzing thermal & electrical load profiles
  • Identified and quantified funding sources, including State of Connecticut resources, Connecticut Clean Energy Fund (CCEF), and federal stimulus money
