Former National Welding Facility

The Town of Newington contracted Fuss & O’Neill to evaluate a site located near a new CTfastrak (former Hartford Busway) commuter station. Fuss & O’Neill’s environmental, structural, and hazardous material staff prepared plans and specifications for the abatement, demolition, and remediation of the site, to be funded by a grant from Connecticut DECD.

We addressed a wide range of environmental, engineering, regulatory, and financial issues to facilitate redevelopment of the approximately four-acre site, which has a long history of industrial activity. Plans and specifications for abatement, demolition, and remediation were prepared for inclusion in the bid and contract documents.

We completed an EPA-approved QAPP and performed Phase I, II, and III environmental site assessments. Our investigations included use of on-site field analytical tools to expedite assessment. We wrote a Remedial Action Plan with options developed to integrate remediation into side demolition and redevelopment to reduce cleanup costs. We prepared plans and specifications for abatement of hazardous materials, building demolition, and remediation. We provided bidding assistance and field oversight services to ensure accordance with plans, specifications, and regulatory requirements.
