Babbidge Library Emergency Lighting Upgrade

The University of Connecticut retained Fuss & O’Neill to design an emergency lighting upgrade throughout the library and connect it to the Campus Emergency Power Distribution.

Fuss & O’Neill installed a 4,160-volt electrical service from the central utilities plant, emergency distribution electrical service equipment, and transfer switches. This project included an analysis of the existing emergency lighting system relative to the applicable electrical/building codes, including the NEC, NFPA, and IFC.

The team measured existing emergency lighting levels and established a means of egress with the campus fire department, performed code research on requirements for emergency lighting, and designed emergency lighting for all seven floors and the penthouse.
