At Fuss & O’Neill, every week is Climate Week

Late September puts climate front and center—Climate Week NYC dominates the headlines, and locally we just wrapped up Harvard Climate Week and have Connecticut Sustainability and Resiliency Week at the end of September. These moments elevate awareness, education, and action across adaptation, resilience, and decarbonization.

At Fuss & O’Neill, my mission is to embed climate considerations into all our work. Our clients are already experiencing more intense rainfall, higher temperatures and extreme heat, and rising sea levels—trends that will continue for decades. Designing with these realities in mind delivers clear ROI and long-term value.

Adaptation isn’t just defense—it’s a chance to reimagine community infrastructure (physical, social, and natural) to be healthier, more livable, and more economically resilient. And while we pursue emissions reductions, we also recognize that even if GHG emissions were completely eliminated, the need for adaptation would remain.

This week, we’ll highlight recent and ongoing projects that show how resilience and adaptation are embedded in our practice. Our approach turns adaptation and decarbonization into opportunities to:

  • Deliver co-benefits like recreation, cleaner air, and habitat creation
  • Save money by reducing repeat damage, repair, and reconstruction
  • Strengthen economies by lowering disruption and risk to critical infrastructure
  • Improve public health by improving adaptive capacity to cope with both sudden shocks and chronic stressors associated with climate disruption and natural hazards
