CANTON — Residents are invited to give their thoughts about new design regulations for Collinsville and Route 44 at a charrette planned for June.

A charrette is a workshop where people can offer thoughts about an ongoing project and watch professionals hired to complete it work. In the case of Canton’s new design regulations, the workshop will be June 9-12, at the community center.

The four-day event will be the main opportunity for people to voice their opinions on what new development will look like in those two parts of town, said Town Planner Neil Pade. Once the charrette is done, the consultant hired to write the new regulations will get started, taking into consideration the ideas and opinions offered by residents, officials, property owners and others who are interested, Pade said.

“The idea is to engage the public in a more direct fashion and given them a voice,” Pade said about the upcoming charrette. “It’s a proactive way to engage with the public.”
