Fuss & O’Neill was hired by the City of Holyoke’s Gas and Electric Department to provide engineering and landscape design services for the improvement of Gatehouse Park and the Riverside Park Recreational Area, located next to Hadley Falls Dam and canal system.
Our multi-discipline team designed a recreational area that includes pedestrian pathways to access prime fishing spots, selective pruning of vegetation to enhance views of the Connecticut River, and ADA access. We designed gatehouse viewing platforms and completed a structural assessment of an existing bridge.
Our group provided permitting services and prepared site and landscape design drawings, technical specifications and cost estimates. During this process we managed input of multiple stakeholders including historical commissions, South Hadley, Holyoke, Army Corps of Engineers, and Eversource.
The park design highlights the area’s historic canal system, allowing residents to enjoy the scenic Connecticut River Valley.
