Water Main Replacement and Relocation

Fuss & O’Neill previously conducted an analysis of adaptation actions under Coastal Zone Management (CZM) Grant funding. We quantified the risk and recommended adaptation actions for the existing water main crossing from Pease’s Point to Point Connett. This portion of the project focuses on the construction of our recommended improvements.

The design included horizontal directional drilling of a new potable water main and a sanitary sewer in a carrier pipe (approximately 12 feet deep) from Avenue “A” on Pease’s Point to Beach Road on Point Connett. The work included open cut excavation on Avenue “A” and Beach Road to make connections from the new, deeper water main installed by direction drilling to the existing water mains at the Avenue “A”/venue “B” intersection as well as the Beach Road/Bay Road Intersection. We developed technical specifications to accompany the design drawings and developed a Notice of Intent (NOI) Permit.

This project was identified as a top priority for infrastructure vulnerability during the Community Resilience Building Workshop for the Town of Mattapoisett, as they have become a Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness (MVP) community.
