Merrimack Riverwalk and Bikeway

Fuss & O’Neill prepared a master plan for the development of a 2.1 mile Riverwalk along the Downtown/Millyard area adjacent to the Merrimack River. This project has become a motivating force for the revitalization of Downtown Manchester adding value to increased tourism, commercial development, and recreational and transportation needs of its patrons.

The Riverwalk project involved the development of a paved public walkway/bikeway along the east bank of the Merrimack River connecting Sundial Avenue with South Commercial Street. A parking layout was also included in the master plan and the final design. The project was constructed as an appropriate use of the land in this area by limiting tree clearing, the use of Low Impact Development (LID) practices for stormwater management.
