RIDOT Intersection Safety Studies

Fuss & O’Neill conducted safety studies for the Rhode Island Department of Transportation, evaluating 16 intersections where more than 10 crashes occurred per year.

Studies included field data collection, base mapping development, transportation analysis, extensive crash history investigation and analysis, and development of conceptual improvements to mitigate the identified crash patterns. A Conceptual Design Report (CDR) was completed for each location. Following the successful completion of the CDRs, Fuss & O’Neill was awarded the final design contract.

Proposed improvements ranged from signing and striping modifications to corridor-wide improvements. Improvements included the following:

  • Kingstown Road (Route 108), Wakefield
  • South County Trail (Route 2) at Frenchtown Road, East Greenwich
  • New London Avenue at Howard Avenue, Cranston
