Pocasset River Watershed Plan

Fuss & O’Neill began working with NRCS to address flooding problems along the Pocasset River in 2009. The watershed of the Pocasset River is very urbanized with significant development within the river’s floodplain. As a result, flooding in the river has historically resulted in significant damage to private property and infrastructure.

Fuss & O’Neill updated an earlier watershed plan in 2016 to propose an overall plan to reduce flooding. That earlier plan relied entirely on gray infrastructure such as floodwalls and some limited structure flood proofing. The 2016 update changed the focus of the plan to reduce flooding by relying more on floodplain restoration as a more cost effective and resilient approach to meet the goals of NRCS and the community. This project was led by NRCS.
