American Locomotive Transit-Oriented Redevelopment

Fuss & O’Neill was contracted by Struever Bros., Eccles, Rouse, Inc. to provide planning and engineering services to support the proposed $333 million redevelopment of an underutilized historic mill complex in downtown Providence.

Leveraging multi-disciplinary capabilities in civil, environmental, regulatory, traffic and transportation engineering, the project team mitigated complex technical issues to facilitate a transit-oriented redevelopment of the 25-acre urban site. Work was completed on an extremely expedited project permitting and implementation schedule.

The project also required coordination with a diverse set of stakeholders and multiple local and state agencies, including RIDEM, RIDOT, CRMC, USEPA, and the City of Providence.

Incorporating a New Urbanism approach, the redevelopment combines historic buildings with public amenities and a riverside greenway. Fuss & O’Neill’s Providence office is now located in the American Locomotive complex.
