Fitchburg State University, Hammond Hall Campus Center

Hammond Hall is a campus hub comprised of a library, offices, art gallery, bookstore, lecture hall, game room, meeting rooms, the Bistro and the Hub. As part of a multi-phase, multi-year renovation project, Fuss & O’Neill provided hazardous building materials consulting services to facilitate extensive interior and exterior additions and renovations. We conducted pre-renovation hazardous building materials inspections for each work phase, which included identification, quantification, and opinions-of-abatement costs for asbestos- and PCB-containing materials.

We developed technical abatement specifications to address asbestos abatement, PCB performance-based disposal, lead-based paint awareness, lighting ballasts, and mercury management. Careful coordination with all parties ensured on-time completion dates for each phase. Full-time project monitoring occurred throughout for abatement and air-sampling adjacent to work areas. Re-occupancy testing was performed inside each regulated work area. Fuss & O’Neill conducted PCB post-verification sampling (windows and exterior plaza) to verify surfaces were properly remediated and cleaned to meet clearance criteria for unrestricted use.
