Fuss & O’Neill completed the design and construction of a multi-million dollar closed-loop wastewater system at a state-of-the-art aerospace facility. Having worked with the client for more than 20 years on a variety of environmental and facility projects, we took over design at preliminary stages.
Under a design-build contract, our team developed final design documents and oversaw the construction of the wastewater recycle system, including all mechanical and electrical interfaces.
The system consisted of a series of unit operation replacements, upgrades, and additions. Multi-media filters and a reverse osmosis (RO) system were used to return 80% of incoming wastewater as deionized water to the facility for reuse. Reject from the RO system enters a condensate recovery evaporator which returns 90% of the reject for reuse.
The $7 million project was completed on time and within budget, and the facility no longer maintains a permitted process wastewater discharge.
