New Coventry Early Childhood Center To Open For Town’s Preschoolers

When the new school year opens in August, 80 preschool students from Coventry will have modern new classrooms, and their teachers will have new educational and administrative facilities. In a recent ceremony, town officials and preschool students, joined by design engineers from Manchester-based Fuss & O’Neill to break ground on a unique design-build renovation project that will result in the conversion of modular classrooms in the town’s middle school to preschool-specific teaching areas. Offices, hallways, and bathrooms are also being added for use by preschool staff and students…

“With design-build, we will be able to complete the project in a fraction of the time traditional design-bid-build’ would have taken. We were also able to manage the cost of the project to meet a preset and fixed budget. Use of design-build allowed the design, permitting, and construction to proceed almost simultaneously while reducing the overall cost by approximately 30%” said James Galey, president of Fuss & O’Neill Design-Build Services.

By using a design-build approach, the development team will be able to complete the project in only three months, assuring that the space will be ready by the first day of school this fall.
