People in Business: Fuss O’Neill expands Springfield Office Team

Springfield – New England based engineering firm, Fuss & O’Neill recently added a new member to their environmental sciences team. Julie Busa, Ph. D, joined the team as an environmental scientist for the Water Environment and Natural Resources Practice team.

Busa, of Easthampton, comes to the firm highly qualified with ten years of experience in the fields of global biodiversity, sustainability and ecological modelling. Prior to joining the team at Fuss & O’Neill, she worked in academia conducting and publishing ecological research. She served at the project manager and an advisor for wetland restoration projects.

She has served as President of the Society for Conservation Biology’s Working Group for Ecological Economics and Sustainability Science and has taught extensively, holding positions on the environmental studies faculties of multiple colleges. Her work has taken her around the globe, where she has conducted field research in places as varied as India and Appalachia, exploring conservation issues at the intersection of human and natural systems in an aim to empower communities to shape their own futures around ecologically, economically and socially sound systems.

Busa’s dissertation focused on the relationship between economic growth and the levels of conservation. She gained knowledge on this subject by spending time in north and central India working with various National Parks to see how they portray conservation in their public outreach efforts.

Her current projects at Fuss & O’Neill are centered in Connecticut, working on a variety of MS4 (Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System) as well as a Climate Change Adaptation plan for Providence Water (RI). This project will prepare the impact climate change could have on the reservoir, which is the drinking water for the city, and how it may affect the water quality.
