Meet Kevin Sullivan of Fuss & O’Neill in Quincy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kevin Sullivan.

Kevin, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started as a co-op student with another company. I was hired full time when I graduated and worked my way up, earning my PE in Electrical Engineering. I was later appointed Director of Building Engineering and was responsible for MEP and structural services for the company.

In 2011 I joined Fuss and O’Neill as an Associate. Part of my responsibilities was to grow an Eastern Massachusetts office. We slowly built our staff in the Boston Office. We added staff to EnviroScience (an LLC) and made our Energy Solutions LLC a practice team within the firm.

We added staff in both our Community Development and Environmental Practice Teams, and eventually outgrew the office. Earlier this year we moved to our current location, Heritage Point in North Quincy. It met all our objectives: ample parking (since a lot of our employees drive to project sites), easy access to the MBTA, a location that would attract high quality, younger staff. Since moving, we have added additional staff to or Environmental, Energy, and Facilities, and Water & Natural Resources Practice Teams.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Having never been in the position to grow an office, that challenge was difficult enough, all while assimilating into a new company and culture. It took some time to establish a presence in Eastern Massachusetts and to add staff, but we seem to be hitting our stride now.

Please tell us about Fuss & O’Neill.
Fuss & O’Neill is a full-service engineering firm with offices located in every New England state. We have five practice teams: (Energy and Facilities, Environmental, Community Development, Water & Natural Resources, and Construction Services) and two LLCs (EnviroScience and Manufacturing Solutions). We are engineers, scientists, planners, and landscape architects coving all engineering disciplines. Our motto is “Creating Works of Life”.

We are proud to create the world around us and help our clients’ dreams become realities. These projects come in many forms: solar PV energy plants, environmental remediation, brownfields, community redevelopment, bridges, transportation, climate resiliency, and many more. We pride ourselves on developing innovative solutions to complex issues by collaborating with our clients and within Fuss & O’Neill.

Who else deserves credit – have you had mentors, supporters, cheerleaders, advocates, clients or teammates that have played a big role in your success or the success of the business? If so – who are they and what role did they plan / how did they help.
The list is long and distinguished… the entire Fuss & O’Neill family deserves credit for maintaining its longevity and growing into new markets and geographies. Growing an engineering company is not easy; it takes a commitment from the entire company. I am grateful to our repeat clients. They have helped us expand services and locations. I appreciate our new clients who recognized our passion and trusted us with their visions.
