Fuss & O'Neill presents at 2009 National Brownfields Conference

John Chambers, PG, LSP of Fuss & O’Neill, presented “Industrial Brownfield Transformation into Public Middle School Campus, Woonsocket, RI” at the 2009 Brownfields Conference in New Orleans, Louisiana.

John was part of a larger panel discussing the issues of siting schools on contaminated property, which has become a national issue. John’s Presentation focused on the very successful siting of the largest Middle School Campus in New England on a highly contaminated former industrial site in downtown Woonsocket, RI.

The presentation focused on several keys to success for this project including:

Addressing environmental justice issues through proactive engagement of the public and other stakeholders through effective public outreach
Ensuring safety through comprehensive environmental assessment and redundant and aggressive remediation implementation
Acquisition of regulatory approvals through effective and early collaboration with regulatory decisions makers
